Xihe is the mother of the sun in ancient Chinese myths. It comes from Legends of Mountains and Seas: “Outside the East Sea, between the sweet springs, there was the country called Xihe. In Xihe country, there was a woman named Xihe, the wife of Emperor Jun. She gave birth to ten suns and she often bathed the suns in Ganyuan.” The Academy aims to cultivate medical personnel who are with scientific research innovation ability, who are dedicated and who can help our society.

Xihe Academy was founded in August 2014, and now has 8 majors, including clinical medicine, rehabilitation therapy, bioengineering, biotechnology, biological pharmacy, pharmacy, pharmaceutical preparations and medical imaging technology. There are more than 4000 students. The academy has set up a scientific thinking teaching and research office to undertake the general teaching task of scientific literacy and critical thinking modules. The college has more than 20 full-time counselors and life teachers to provide all-round services for the growth of students.

Xihe Academy takes “Zheng Xue, Ding Xin” as its motto, “Zheng Xue” refers to correct studying style. The academy has formulated a “five in one learning style construction system” to guide students to “self-education, self-supervision, self-service and self-management”, and has achieved the studying style goal of “six highs, three lows and one never”. Sticking to the idea of “expanding connotation, enriching forms, excavating functions, and highlighting features”, through a series of activities such as “the strongest class leaders skills competition”, “Red flag shines in Xihe” to strengthen student education and achieve the purpose of correcting the style of study.

“Ding Xin” originates from the idiom “Ge Gu Ding Xin (means innovation)”, aiming to cultivate students' scientific research ability and innovative thinking. In the practice of general education reform, the Academy innovated and set “6A qualified people training model”, i.e., to cultivate students' thinking and selection ability, communication and expression ability, psychological anti frustration ability, practical innovation ability, collaborative execution ability and the ability of management by objectives.

Xihe Academy has set up two college-level brand activities: “Simiao forum” lectures and “Ziwei Cup” scientific research and innovation design competition, and also, two academy-level activities: the strongest class committee skills competition and CPC affairs featured education.

“Simiao forum” was founded by Xihe Academy in 2014. It is for the commemoration of Sun Simiao, a medical scientist in Tang Dynasty. It aims to inherit the spirit of the great doctor and continue to write the story of the medical circle. The forum is based on the practice of the Academy's motto of  “Zheng Xue, Ding Xin”, adheres to rigor, focuses on reality, pursues scientific research and innovation, and provides students with a platform for communication with experts and scholars around the training goal of students' “six abilities”, so as to enhance students' awareness of the major, guide students to do well in learning planning, career planning and life planning, and cultivate students to become medical practitioners noble with medical ethics and excellent medical skills. Since the establishment of the college, the lecture has invoted nearly 20 well-known experts and scholars in China and abroad, including Jiang Bin, doctoral supervisor of Sun Yat sen University, Li Jian'an, academician of the American Academy of Medical Sciences, and Yu Chaohong, Professor of Tongji Medical College of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, to give lectures in our academy.

“Ziwei Cup” scientific research project design competition is an annual featured scientific research activity held by our academy. It aims to consolidate the professional basic knowledge of college students, expand their horizons, and exercise their ability to flexibly use knowledge learned in classrooms to solve practical problems, enhance their awareness of innovation, enhance their spirit of cooperation, and cultivate high-quality qualified people with good theoretical basis, strong practical ability and high level of scientific research.

In order to train high-quality medical qualified people with international vision, Sanquan College has set up “excellent innovation class” for clinical medicine major in Xihe Academy. More than 200 students are selected from the freshmen of clinical medicine major, and elite training of medical qualified people is carried out from three aspects of knowledge ability, humanistic quality and international vision.

Since the establishment of the Academy, the achievements of scientific research and postgraduate entrance examination have been outstanding, and the cultural and sports activities have been blooming brilliantly. In 2015, the number of students' scientific research projects accounted for more than 60% of the total number of Sanquan College, and this number increased to 70% in 2016 and 85% in 2019. In 2018, Xihe College's works for competition accounted for 85.7% of the total number of students' extracurricular academic scientific and technological works competition in the “Challenge cup” of Henan Province. The rate of taking the postgraduate entrance examination is the first for many years, and a large number of dormitories and classes of straight A students emerges every year. In 2018, the rate of taking postgraduate entrance examination for bioengineering and biotechnology majors reached 40%, a new record of the rate of taking the postgraduate entrance examination for the whole college. The college students won the first prize in the “Chunhua Qiushi Cup” debate competition for six consecutive years, and the academy was the first in the track meet of the Sanquan College including the total score of men's group, women's group, and both groups. In terms of the ball games meeting, the academy won more than 50% of the championship of the Sanquan College for four consecutive years.

Lofty Xihe stands in the Central Plains where ancestors chasing deer, gathers the essence spirits of humanity and educates the qualified medical practitioners. Numerous students embrace the spirit of the Yellow River, uphold the motto of correcting study style and carry the benevolence of doctors. On the weathering ways, there are Xihe students who are honest, modest, brave, perseverant, eloquent, resolute, responsible and moral. When climbing for the dreams, Xihe students walk with clangs, cure diseases, solve difficulties, strengthen their souls, keep their integrity and purity, and write new chapters with excellent skills.

To build a first-class academy, we need to qualified people of the era; to achieve great accomplishments for a century, we have many students. Referring to the experiences of first-class colleges’ and universities’ accommodation and management, Xihe academy will become an important platform for students' character cultivation, self-education and self-management.
